The town centre has fine 18th century houses along the historic harbour and a 17th century Butterwalk. It has delightful, narrow winding streets with numerous chic boutiques, galleries and a weekly market. There is a wide choice of superb restaurants such as John Burton-Race’s New Angel and Nu at the Royal Castle Hotel, operated by Nigel Way MBE.
In the heart of the town the recently opened Flavel Centre houses a cinema, theatre, café,
library and an open gallery for professional and aspiring artists.
Moorings and marinas, pleasure craft and the cross-river ferry services straddle the waterfront creating a chaos of
masts and rigging with the constant bustle of nautical activities including the celebrated Dartmouth Royal Regatta.

Greg Dyke, the ex Director General of the BBC, has reserved one of the properties at Dartmouth Green. He is passionate about the environment, energy conservation and climate change. The Western Morning News ran a full page article about Greg and Dartmouth Green was also featured in the Western Morning News Property Section. Always ready to muck in, Greg was photographed with a bundle of thatch on his shoulder outside Broxdowne, Hawke and Merlins. Although it cannot really be attributed to Greg’s efforts, the thatching and natural stonework on this building has now been completed.
