Dartmouth Estuary contains one of Britain’s most sheltered and beautiful natural deepwater harbours.
Approaching from the sea there is a narrow river mouth overlooked by a 15th century
castle and framed by woodlands and coves.
Up river the estuary meanders past Greenway, previously the home and estate of Agatha Christie and now
owned by the National Trust, and charming villages such as Dittisham, (close to where the boats will be moored)
and the beautiful vineyards of Sharpham (you must try their 2006 barrel fermented white)
and is navigable as far as the characterful town of Totnes.
The surrounding area of the South Hams has justifiably been claimed to be one of Britain’s most beautiful places,
offering lush green countryside as well as spectacular coastline. From the bright lights of the English Riviera
the attractions include superb beaches such as Slapton Sands and Thurlestone and
intriguing towns like Kingsbridge and Salcombe - all just a short drive away.
Fine food is at its best throughout the South Hams with an abundance of celebrated restaurants and gastro pubs such as the award winning Rose & Crown at Yealmpton, and The Oyster Shack at Bigbury and now at Salcombe too.

Greg Dyke, the ex Director General of the BBC, has reserved one of the properties at Dartmouth Green. He is passionate about the environment, energy conservation and climate change. The Western Morning News ran a full page article about Greg and Dartmouth Green was also featured in the Western Morning News Property Section. Always ready to muck in, Greg was photographed with a bundle of thatch on his shoulder outside Broxdowne, Hawke and Merlins. Although it cannot really be attributed to Greg’s efforts, the thatching and natural stonework on this building has now been completed.
